Non-Return of Document Problem

Two parties sign a written agreement/contract. There is partial performance. Party #1 takes to a lawyer for enforcement. That lawyer will not return the document to Party #1. Getting back this original (or a copy) is important because without either the original or a copy, Party #1 has nothing to support that such existed and nothing on which to sue for breach of contract. What can Party #1 do to get her document (or a copy) returned to her from the lawyer??????
